Ram and OCing question

Hello, I am about to buy RAM for my system, i am a little confused and hesitant. i have a e6750 processor sitting here waiting on its ram. I am planning on ocing it to the cookie cutter 400mhz so it will run 1:1 with 800mhz ram. After looking at some deals I saw that I could get 4 gigs (4x1024) for about 30 bucks more than it would be to get 3 gigs at the same speeds. Would installing 4 gigs into my xp home system hinder my oc-ability, computer, or turn it into single channel? I plan on upgrading to vista within the next 6 months.

don't get vista (it sucks, it just does) and get only 2 gigs. problem solved.
