DX10 on current graphics cards

Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards DX10 on current graphics cards

Word :    Username :

Because games that were patched to DX10 had crappy frame rates, most people assumed that current hardware cannot handle it. BioShock seems to prove the contrary.
Using max details and DX10@1280x1024 I get 30-80 FPS during the demo. The only thing that's missing now is AA, since I heard it cannot be enabled not even with the Nvidia Control Panel. However, Nvidia is releasing new drivers tomorrow to fix this and improve performance in BioShock.
I know that BioShock dosen't use too many DX10 features, but then again, neither games like Lost Planet or Company of Heroes don't, and they have bad performance even with top hardware. Crysis will use more DX10 stuff from what I've heard, so it may be a bigger performance hit there, but at least we know that current hardware dosen't completely fail in DX10.
I ran the demo on a E6420@3Ghz, 2GB RAM, and an 8800GTS@stock freqs.

Sorry if this thread seems pointless, but I wanted to cheer to owners of DX10 cards a bit. :)

Edit: Seems like most links don't work, trying to fix them.
Edit2: Links work now.

Great another DX10 thread -- for the record I would like to correct my opinions on my previous thread which should have been titled 'I hate NVIDIA - not really I am just bitching about nothing'.

I fear I did fall into the category of no patients and regret my previous thread.

So in defence how can you write drivers for something that isn't required and/or nothing stable to test it on?

I think that a DX10/8800 bitch thread should be pinned to the top so we can use it as a learning experience for when DX11 is released.

Three things I am waiting for:
1) A stable and true DX10 to test current hardware
2) The new NVIDIA card/series
3) A decent DX10 card from ATI - competition is good for the consumer.

cant download from that link, anyway the real is coming soon. btw is this game made for 360?? just like rainbow six vegas that isnt made to run as good as other pc games?

Reply to accu

Two devs teams worked on the game - one for 360, one for PC. The game is not a port, it's optimized to run on a wide range of PC.
You can find links in the official 2k forums. I got it from Softpedia, with about 400-500kbps.

While this is great news it's running well on your card under Direct X10 especially seeing as you aren't even using the new drivers, but I wouldn't consider this to be a perfect example of real world Direct X10 performance in comparison to say, Crysis.

No, Crysis will be a different thing. Then again, we know some stuff. First, we know that games that had DX10 patches until now were probably poorly coded, and current cards can do DX10 to some extent with decent performance. Second, Crysis will look spectacular in DX9 also, its awesome graphics aren't the result of DX10 usage only. It will be the best looking DX9 game as well. If you look at the DX9 vs DX10 video, you'll see that there isn't a huge difference. Also, we know that Crysis runs well on current hardware, devs said that.

Not compared to the GTX and the Ultra!

Have you been smoking crack!? There's a huuuuge difference.

Reply to andybird123

Well, there is a difference, but it doesn't seem huge to me. Both look awesome anyway.
And besides, that DX10 movie ran pretty smooth. Sure, it probably ran on SLI Ultras, but still...

thats nice ,thanx for info , current DX10 cards like 8800s perform well in games even DX10 , if u read anandtech review about it , there are many situation that dx9 gets better fps than dx10 and thats mostly because of the drivers ,

Hope this runs nicely on a 2900. I just love the blue screens i get when exiting games like STALKER. Runs the crap out of it until the end, then you exit and your pc stalls. ^^

Dx10 might get lower frame rates but it produces FAR more detail per performance than dx9. so it might run a bit slower but it is going to look MUCH better than you could get on dx 9. just hope this dx10.1 story is a lie.

Rabidpeanut: I've heard that Bioshock on DX10 is having some serious issues with the Radeon HD cards, but that a new driver is coming out in a couple days that will fix that.

a question, can the "mid range" (cough cough low end cough cough) 8600's run it in dx10 smoothly
edit: i'm pretty sure no cards can run dx20 yet lol so i'll rephrase that

2900xt 1GB is the best card out i believe, but superclocked Ultras may beat it...it's a slower card, but with GDDR4 memory and 512-bit memory interface, i doubt it sucks

Reply to Geosondaman

A GTX/Ultra should wipe the floor with a 2900XT 1GB.
