Why eVGA?

Last response: in Graphics & Displays

I've been looking to buy an Geforce 8800GTS. The question is why eVGA?

Every forum I've read, 90 percent of the people either listed eVGA as the choice of video card or recommended me one. I would just like to know why eVGA over XFX of BFG?

The reason is because I have all the parts for my computer at a store, but in order to get my eVGA, I have to travel 20 min to get it and im lazy lol. If it's worth it, I'll travel though. Thanks guys.

Good customer support with the Step-up program so close to the G92 would be a good idea. But I'd wait until the end of the month, cause nothing official has come from Nvidia about the release date.

wats the step-up program, and i heard the g92 will cost loads

The step-up program is that if you want to upgrade your card withing 90 days, you can return it for the price you paid and then get the higher rated card. An example is that I recently bought a 8800 GTS. If I decided that I wanted a g92 card, I could trade the 8800 GTS card in for a g92 and get the money I paid for the 8800 subtracted from the cost of the g92. Of course, if you have no intention of using the step up program, then it doesn't matter.

I do wish a few other companies had something like a step up program, and I wish that something similar was there for those who like ATI cards, but the step up is one thing that singles out EGVA from the other companies for now.

Yes the customer support is very good. I had to RMA my 6600GT last year and it was pretty quick. Ok the one they sent me was DOA. I just e-mailed their support and they paid for all the shipping cost (both formy previous RMA and the "new" RMA).

on some cards they even replace it if you fry it trying to oc.

I've never known any company that didn't replace a card fried for overclocking. You just don't tell them you overclocked it. if they ask, you say something like "Overclock, what's that? I'm sure I have my clocks set at the right time. The clocks set at 4:25. Isn't that right?" Basically, overclocking is done in software, not in hardware, so they can't tell the difference just by looking at the burned out card.

Unless you plan on using the step-up program, there's no disadvantage to using another brand.

I have a PNY 8800 GTS myself. Works great! If you don't care about the step-up, just get whatever's cheapest.

The step up is very useful at times. Especially if you burned out a card and were planning to wait for the next series before buying. With the step up, you buy now and then trade it back for full value when the new one comes out.

I've had a couple of cards from PNY, eVGA, and HIS among the Nvidia based ones. All of them worked ok, so no complaints to register about any of them.
