I just wanted some input on whether or not this build sounds alright... (gonna buy after I post on here; was just having second thoughts before I hit the submit button and newegg charges my credit card tons of money and I have to end up going back to my job as corner store whore behind the local Ralph’s shopping center to pay this off. :kaola:)

*the main requirement I want is to be able to hook it up to my 42inch 1920x1080p Philips ambilight lcd tv.

--------

EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail $279.99

*is this video card going to be able to handle a game at 1920x1080 smoothly? Or do I need to fork out the extra 100$ for the 640mb 8800gts?

CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 520W Power Supply - Retail $124.99

*overkill? Don’t know much about PSUs.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6750 - Retail $211.99

*go with the q6600? There’s about a 95$ price difference. e6750 vs. q6600.

*do i really need 4gb for vista to run smoothly? then this would also mean i need the 64bit version of home premium. is that available if i purchase an academic version (which is def tempting with the 150$ cut)

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $64.99

It'll help alot to know exactly in what way your going to use your PC through your TV. Will it be a entertainment library? A pure gaming machine (so you can play your PC games on your big TV), a mixture of both or what?

If your building an entertaimenet library i assume your going to be storing movies on it and such that you select off the PC and play on your TV (Windows Media kinda thing). If that's the case your going to need bigger HDD's. Maybe like 2 500GB's to accomidate your growing library (maybe start off with one and add another if your collection gets that big). Get a Zalman heatsink on that PC's CPU to make the system quite cause i'm sure you dont want to hear a humming noise while watching movies with the wife or girlfriend.

If your doing this as a gaming rig to hook up to your TV then focus on the graphic's card and such. That EVGA should be able to go to the resolution's your looking for. Stay with that HDD, should be enough to hold your gaming library and rest looks good.

If this is a mixture of both gaming and entertaiment rig then go with a bigger HDD. Like one 320 to 500GB or so to hold your DVD library and your gaming files. Maybe two drives, one 250GB for gaming (maybe even make that a 150GB raptor?) and one 320GB for your DVD library.

My experience of this was i built an entertainement rig about a year ago. I simply purchased a good mobo (Asus P5), 8800GTS card, 2GB DDR2 800, two 500GB drives and went with Windows Media (this was a pure entertainement box. No other programs on it what so ever). The two 500GB's held my entire movie library (thank GOD for Netflix, lol) and the PC was hooked up near my TV set and i hooked it up to the TV when i wanted and just watched my library of movies selected via the PC and broadcasted on my TV.

So better you buy parts just explain to us what your using this rig for and we can help you make better descion on what parts will go better with what your looking to do.

for gaming at that resolution i would recommend a 8800 gtx, as the 8800 gts is good for games up to and including 1680 by 1050. so if you want to play games at 1920 by 1080 then go for the 8800 gtx

I set up a Windows Media Center 2005 computer with a 500GB SATA hard drive. I record TV and then burn the programs to DVD and get them off my system. I am using a 32inch Norcent HDTV. I don't do games as most of you do. I can switch to video and watch movies via a DVD video player. The Norcent is my monitor. It can be used a monitor, TV and video player viewer. I don't have HiDef service.

I use a 27inch LCD, but I only connect it with a VGA port. For some reason, looks better on mine then a DVI to HDMI connector does, a lot better..

N yeh it is HD :p
