I have a theory about the future of RE...
Capcom obviously doesn't intend RE4 to be the last game in the series.
As of a year ago, Capcom has been in financial trouble. They canceled a
lot of games in development. Now they need the RE franchise to be
successful.
Lets think about RE5 for a minute. RE4 can't be the ultimate RE. Capcom
would be screwing themselves in doing that. They've got to be able to
top RE4 with the next game. Playstation is what made the series a best
seller. The combo of RE and Sony have always been a hit.
The descriptions of RE4 make it seem like yet another *side story* than
the long awaited sequel we've been expecting. Why have they switched the
concept shown in the RE4 trailers from last year? Could it be that they
want to to save it for the much more lucrative PS2 market? Why blow your
best idea on the smaller GC market?
Also this new RE4 seems conceptually simpler than the prior version. In
the new GC RE4, we see villagers that seem possessed. The old trailer
showed a concept that could be seen as a progression on this concept. In
RE5, not only can humans get possessed but also things like dolls and
mannequins. That could be really scary. By doing this "possessed
villagers" thing, they are giving themselves room to easily top
themselves with the next game.
,,,just a theory.
