I have connected two PCs running XP home.

Both are connected to a gigabit switch. The switch is also connected to a DSL modem/router/gateway (2Wire 1000SW)

I tried to create a network using the commands in the control panel.

Both PCs can access the internet. When I view the network from the router both PCs appear.

However, when I view the network from an individual PC, it shows only the router and that PC. The other PC does not appear and I can't get the PCs to recognize any shared drives.

It seems like I have two individual networks sharing the same router. Is there some way to disable everything and start over ????

Thanks

Have you enabled file sharing features on both computers ?
You might benefit from trying a different network explorer, even alternatives that are based on Windows explorer can sometimes be more reliable than Windows explorer.
XP Home some limitations compared to XP PRO especially where networking is concerned.
