Hello,

I'm helping a friend put together a computer, but I wanted to run the specs by the experts here first. Already have all the peripherals, such as a monitor, keyboard, speakers, etc. Also already have the RAM we're going to use. I figure that the case, video card, processor and hard drive listed below are fine. But i'd like some confirmation that everything is compatible with the mother board and that the power supply is powerful enough for all this. Any other comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

X

Hey, first I'd suggest getting Centurion 534 instead of 5, it has better airflow.

S econd, you might want to consider saving some money and going with Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R instead, great, stable board with nice features, not in any way inferior to the Asus you picked, yet it costs less.

Powe r supply unit is something you definitely don't want to be saving money on, go with a quality trusted brand like Corsair and get Corsair 520HX from buy.com for $99.

E6600 isn't worth getting since E6750 and E6550 are out. Get E6750, it's faster than E6600 and costs $20 less. (2.4Ghz 4MB cache vs 2.66Ghz 4MB cache)

Rest looks just fine,
Good luck.

I agree with Dior..I was going to suggest the 6750 as well. P35 is also a much better choice. You also atleast have some upgrade room. Try to stay away from rosewill...the corsair psu mentioned above should fit the bill.

If you aren't building this computer relatively soon you might want to wait for the g92...When it comes out the 8800 series will drop in price..you might be able to nab a 8800GTX then.....If you're building this computer now then you chose a good card. I'm also glad to see you nabbed a 8800 GTS...If you wait a month or so to build this rig I think you might make the g92 within the step up date..that was you can trade it up for a g92 if you wish...a great deal imo. ^_^

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure if my buddy will wait for the g92 or not, but its not a bad idea. I'm trying to convince him to get new RAM, since the stuff he has is budget stuff and not high speed. How is this:

And, how would it compare to these:

The crucial memory seems like a good buy at $100, is there enough of a performance difference to make it worth it? Also, i've always used Corsair and know they are reputable, but I've seen a lot of good things about Crucial and wanted to confirm that they are a good brand.

Thanks again,

X

Crucial kit is great, they use quality memory modules and for the price it's a really good buy.

You should also take a look at this Super Talent kit, great timings for under $100:

Ther e is absolutely nothing wrong with Corasir, but unless you plan to overclock your CPU heavily, 1066MHz isn't really necessary.

Crucial or Super Talent are both great choices.
