I'm choosing a few components for a small file server.

I've come up with the following selection:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66Ghz, 1333Mhz FSB)
Asus Commando Motherboard
Corsair XMS2 DHX 4GB DDR2-800
Cooler Master Centurion 5
Seventeam 550W PSU
Adaptec 1430SA PCIe 4x 4-port SATA2 RAID Controller
2x HD Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 16MB cache
Asus GeForce 6200TC
Samsung SATA DVD Recorder (black)

What do you guys think? Please keep in mind that we're on a budget... I'd love to go SCSI + get a high-end PSU for this server, but I'm working with what I've got.

Thanks in advance.

how much are you paying for your cpu? you could always upgrade it to an x3210 (2.14 ghz quadcore) for ~$240

Yes, we're checking if we can also get the Q6600, which is now cheaper. Availability on the X3210 is bad: I haven't found it anywhere here where I live (Brazil)...

The E6750 is cheaper than the Q6600, and we'll try to get the extra money for the Q6600. The RAID-1-ed HDs were more important to us than the actual CPU...

I'd get it. It will keep the temps down and hopefully make the CPU last longer.

Does a file server really need 4 GB of RAM? Honestly don't know and curious... I think it's good to have it if it caches files and you keep asking for the same files a lot, but you may get the same results with only 2 GB anyway...

Hey, I was just thinking the same thing. Going with "only" 2GB makes the server cheaper. We're checking it out.

Also, I agree on getting the Thermalright supercooler. I've worked with this cooler before. It's simply the best, period! :)

I'm thinking that, if it fits the budget, we'll get the Q6600 + 4GB + TR U120; if we can't do that, then what the hell, let's go with the E6750 + 2GB + stock cooling. It would be too much to get the TR U120 to cool the E6750 and it would be stupid (for us) to go with Q6600 and only 2GB of memory. We need more memory for each core than that.

So it all boils down to one question: money. Having it or not having it, that is. :(
