Hi. I'm attempting my first PC build. I want to use the P5K DELUXE/WIFI-AP motherboard by Asus. How do I know if it has the ports that I need to connect to the front of my case. For instance the case I want has a headphone jack and two USB ports in the front, will this board be able to suppport that? Secondly I have a Geforce 6800 Graphics Card from a while ago that I never used, but was going to slot into the new system. The packaging on the card tells me to "connect a power dongle for sufficient power". What is a power dongle, and will I really end up needing one if I have a 500watt PSU? Also, from what I've read, Asus motherboards are picky with the type of RAM. Theres supposed to be a 'Qualified Vendor List' of RAM suppliers on Asus's website but I cant find it at all? Does anyone have a link? Thanks in advance.

yes the p5k will have the ports to connect to the front of your case

for the video card, are you sure it isn't agp... because if it is it isn't supported by most modern motherboards and certainly not this one

the motherboard is what supplies power to the card initially so you psu wattage has nothing to do with it, yes it will need a power dongle which is probably a 6 pin power connector

i use ram that isn't on the ram list and it works fine, im not sure how picky this motherboard in particular is but many will take ram thats not on the 'qualified vendor list'

I'm positive it isnt an AGP card. I actually have a pic of the thing here:
http://keefer.t.googlepages.com/DSCN0761.JPG. I guess the closest thing to a connector for a power dongle are the holes surrounded by metal rings in the top right corner. anway, I dont see a 6 pin connector fitting into there. I could be wrong on that though. After actually seeing it, do you have any other ideas?

Just for future refrence (in case I decide to change cases or motherboards or something) how exactly do you determine what kind of front ports the mobo supports?

Here's a picture of 6800 GS' 6-pin power connector:

It is located in the upper right corner of the card, if your card doesn't have it, chances are it is one of the older models and doesn't require any other power sources other than what the MB provides.

almost all support the two audio ports, then on newegg under specs it will say onboard usb 5x or something if it doesn't it doesn't have usb support and it will also say onboardfirewire 1x if it doesn't it isn't supported

One easy way to find compatible memory is to visit sights that list compatible memory for different motherboards. You type in the motherboard and they will show you which memory works. Sites like www.memory4less.com or www.crucial.com.
