My appologies if this is in the wrong forum or has been asked before.

Im looking at building a server, thus I have built PC's in the past I have never built a server.

Can anyone tell me what components I require in order to build a server ? , also if you can suggest any stores or places to get good deals on components then let me know. I know of newegg and tigersdirect .

The server will be used to host websites and small IT projects. It will be located in a data centre near me.

Thanks in advance

Rackmount or freestanding? How critical are the systems on it? How will it be monitored? What kind of web sites? Just text, images, and links, or full scale e-commerce? ftp?
If I were building a server I'd use a dedicated RAID adapter and do RAID-5 on it, maybe with a hot spare.
Does the datacenter have a UPS?

If it is rack mount, 1U,2U... let us know.

Assuming it is a regular system:
1.) you can run linux server if your IT projects allow it.
2.) you can run windows server with IIS (for website hosting).

General server equipment consists of RAID 1 (or 0+1) and reliable equipment (aka, no skimping).
