-Would rather go quad and OC, but i have never Oc'ed before. Is it hard?

I already have an 8800GTX.

I have a 580watt PSU, but should I upgrade? Not sure if it's cut out for the new stuff.

I am getting Windows Home Premium(64bit) for this system.

Not sure what case to buy either.

.... you already have a 8800GTX wtf are you upgrading from.
I prefer Corsair, but thats just cause i like them
you have 580W with a 8800gtx?
if you plan on overclocking it ain't gonna cut it, it you don't then it may.
Overclocking isn't hard however if it is your first time it will seem like it is. You will most likely need a good guide, PM me and i can recommend some.
If you decide to OC then you will need an after market cooler, Tuniq 120, or Thermalright 120 ultra will do you well.

If you have any questions just let me know.

Hi there, if you plan to overclock I would go with the Quad, it will last you longer since many future games and applications will support quad cores.

The motherboard is really up to you. Both of those are great. If you want to have future upgradablity to DDR3, go with P35C, if you don't think you'll upgrade to the new memory, get the P35 and enjoy it. Both are very stable and seem to have great overclocking tools built into them. If its your first time, gigabyte makes Overclocking easy and you don't even have to go through the bios. The provide you a program that lets you do it through your desktop :).

The Ram is really about how much you plan on overclocking. If you are going to 3.2-3.4 you should be fine with a good set of DDR2-800 Ram. I suggest Super Talent, since they prove their overclocking worth over and over and cost less than others.

Th ose are great :). If you have questions let me know, msg me on yahoo or aim, Maximus9102.

use this to calculate what you need for a PSU

I can tell you that my E6600 on a P5WDH Deluxe with a 7600 vid card; 2 gigs of memory 4 DVD burners; 1 floppy and 2 SATA HDD's (I'm over clocked from 2.4 to 3.7 and I hover around 43 degrees most of the time under full load) consumes a whopping 668 watts.

Mobo: get the GA-P35C-DS3R if you care about DDR3. Get the GA-P35-DS3P if you care about Firewire. Get the GA-P35-DS3R if you don't care about either.

It's probably better to go with the SuperTalent RAM indeed.

I vote for the Q6600. Lots of people overclock it, can't be that hard. Get a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme.

What sort of PSU is it? The watts are there, but what about the amps and quality?

Do you like the Antec 900, or Antec P182? Maybe Thermaltake Armor?

I'm using a PCPOWERANDCOOLING SILENT 750 ... has a single rail at 60 amps.

I've not got a clue what the OP is using.. I'm just fairly sure his existing PSU's not going to cut the mustard.

you can go here http://www.pcpower.com/specials/ to find the PSU's that are "Refurbed" ... they have the same warranty as the new ones for a few sheckles less.

No this isn't a plug.. just a helpful pointer to save some sheckles

Hey, I got the same PSU or similar (Silencer Quad 750W). It's fantastic. :) A bit expensive IMO, but we're talking about a build with an 8800 GTX here. Yeah, another vote for that one. Or maybe a Corsair 620HX, almost as good and cheaper.

The quad wasn't available when I built either the 1st or second machine... I'm in the throws of building a 3rd and this one won't need the quad either... all but one of these systems has been something I've built and given away.

Thanks a bunch for all of the input. I have decided to go with the Q6600 with the Tuniq cooler because I think it's about time I tried OCing a system.

I think this PSU will provide sufficiant power:
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817341002

That Antec 900 will probably be my choice. Thanks aevm.

The Super Talent sticks look very promising. The funny thing is that I have 2GB of their DDR 400 in my soon to be old system.

I'm gonna go with the GA-P35C-DS3R because of the future of DDR3.

Again thanks for all the info.
