I was planning on building a new PC with RAID-1 for data protection. I was thinking of a couple of Seagate 320GB SATA drives for the RAID.

My question is, can I add a third drive for general non-critical storage without effecting the RAID? The motherboard I'm considering is the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P.

Thanks everyone.

Yes... however, please note RAID-1 is not a "Data Backup" by any means. If you really have critical stuff its best to use external drives
