Mic help for M61P-S3

I just finished my new build using the Gigabyte M61P-S3. It booted fine and the drivers were satisfactory. The only problem I am having is that my headset microphone isn't working properly. I know the Mic works because it worked yesterday. I plugged the corresponding plugs in the correct places and it auto-detected them and I checked the appropriate boxes yet it doesn't work. Any ideas? I've tried going through the control panel/ sounds, speech, audio devices/ voice and the mic just isn't being recognized.
