Yes, and certainly not worth the price tag.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. The price is right, and if you can find one...............

LMFAO wow what a noob response.

simple CPU upgrade. one CPU = x

for him to goto C2D he would need MB, RAM , CPU = x

I can GUARANTEE you that the first will be cheaper. Now YOU tell me which is cheaper.

The way AMD's are priced right now i'd buy the best AMD CPU that you can afford, it'd be the cheapest way to get a noticeable boost in performance.

Go for the 6000+ x2, price difference between ti and others is tiny, costs about £100 her ein the UK so probably even less in the US.

You'd see quite a desent jump in performance.

I have a 4000+ single core, 2GB RAM and an 8800GTS-640 and I run all games to date with no slowdown (e.g. BF2142 with all settings maxxed I get 60+fps, more like 80fps most of the time)

looking at your specs, you'll get the biggest boost from a better GPU, not a processor upgrade

The 1950Pro would actually be slower in most of the games and applications verses the 1800XT.

I know the proposed upgrade is cheaper, but I don't think its worth the money. He has a Dual Core using the K8 architecture, and what he is upgrading to is Dual Core using the K8 architecture. The only difference is clock speed. It would actually be much cheaper to overclock, and even throwing in a new CPU cooler would be cheaper than a whole new CPU.

If he's using Socket 939, the upgrade would cost well over $100, and AM2 would be ~$80 or something.

Overclock your memory. That'll give you a little boost in performance and save your money.

Ok this is what I want to know. I play a lot of games. Most of thim play well with what I have but I can not turn all the I candy on @1280x1024. I want to keep my HP for now but max it out on what I can do with it. I can not overclock because of the motherboard so I was going the route of faster cpu &ram or one of the two. I thank I can do this for less than 200. but is my card going to hurt me. If I push up the power in these two areas. Or just get a better card. In other words is it the stuff that is pushing the card or is it the card.
