OK guys, I know these types of posts are a dime a dozen, but I can't explain to you how long I've been looking for the right low profile video card. I got a Inspiron 531s as a graduation present and as most know the video in it stinks. It has from what I've gathered one PCIe-x16 graphics slot, one PCIe-x1 slot, and two PCI slots. I'm trying to find a video card that is pretty much the best that can be put in it. I know the computers size limits it, but I want to be able to play 3d games at a decent level and not have it skip on me when I play a game and watch Youtube like it is currently doing. Please help this rookie.

If it's one of these http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/ [...] l=en&s=dhs then a 8800GTS 320MB which is 9 1/4" long and 4" high should fit in the case but the PSU might struggle a bit.

The other option is to get a new case for the computer.
(Just a thought)

the computer is a 531slim which is about 3.8" wide and thats where Im having the problems. The PSU is only 250w, but I figured Id have to get a new one anyways. thank you for the continued help!

You're right, you will need a half height card so your choices are severely limited. Also the PS is probably smaller so it will be tough to get one to fit. 250 watt is certainly a question when running a half decent graphics card as well. Here is a PS calculator

Hopefully their aren't any proprietary connections on that system :??:

You should better get a new case, that should clear allot of problems.

luny's right...dell might throw a few curveballs in the form of proprietary connectors.
