I have talked myself into getting the 8800GTS 320 instead of an x1900XT/Pro. My gaming usually consists of Caesar/Civ/Sims type stuff. However, I want something that I'll use for at least 2 yrs or longer. My question about the 8800GTS is this:

Is there any reason not to buy the OC'd 320 being offered by Dell for $271 vs. the standard 320 which I haven't seen for less than $290 - $20 MIR?

The current plan is to use the 8800GTS 320 in the following:

Antec Solo case (my understanding is the GTS will fit but a GTX would not)
Intel C2D e6750
2gb ram
1*320gb hdd
1*160gb hdd
DVD burner
Corsair 620HX PSU

My current monitor is a CRT running at 1280*1024. If I get an lcd I'm probably looking at a 20" model.

So, any downsides to the OC'd version?

this is the same decision I am struggling to make.....

I only have a 500w psu as well so may need to upgrade that too.

In Aussie dollars everything sounds so much more expensive

I looked at Dell's site and the only GTS I found was a PNY 640 for $409 which is $30 more than Newegg. If you really did find that it's a good deal but I would go with the Evga at Newegg for $289.99 before $20 MIR.

I promise, it is really there.

Any reason not to go for it as opposed to the non OC'd one? Any heat problems?

That's great deal, get it. The same one on Newegg is $284.99 after MIR

Well, it did go up $8 today when I went back to order it. But since I got 10% of paying via PayPal I went ahead and got it. Of course, by the time we added tax it was $268.67...but at least there is no rebate to mess with.

I hate mail in rebates, I will pay a little extra to avoid dealing with them :fou: . Enjoy your new card. :bounce:

Go with EVGA, only GFX cards I buy. People are very happy with the Step-Up program too (serious gamers).

Well...so much for that. I have cancelled the order. When I ordered yesterday the item page said "usually ships in 24 hrs". So I checked to day. Estimated ship date was 1/1/0001 and there was a link on the page titled "Why is my order delayed?"

Bad Feeling.

Called. 2 week lead time.

Cancelled.

So, back to NewEgg or getting it locally at circuitcity using a 10% coupon I have which will at least cover tax :>
