500 gig hd but I might see about getting several smaller ones and putting them in 2 raids or what i was thinking for better performance is a raid of 3 small dives for progeams and the one big one for storage

intel core 2 quad 6600 2.4 ghz

pcie wirless g card

dvd drive

have already

as of right now only one bfg geforce 8600 gt oc video card
http://www2.bfgtech.com/bfgr86256gtoce.aspx

1 dvd burner

This is what i have came up with so far I plan to eventually get another video card so I can go quad monitors adventually because i always have to many windows open and use the sli feature possibly buy some more drives to put in it. Any suggestions would be really helpful along with if you see im missing any thing including cables and stuff like that or more cooling things like the heat pipes but I don’t know anything about that or which if any to get.

its going to be used for moderate gaming but heavy 3d rendering and modeling

total budget is around 1500 for the parts i still need to buy

Thanks for helping

alex

well not reason to get the 8600 gt, and and extreme striker just to get a quad monitor, your better of getting a gigabyte p35-ds3p and a 8800 gtx. as the 8600gt is rubbish for gaming any anything else, even though its a dx0 card. and no point getting the extreme striker unless you are going sli. better to get the p35 as it still have 2x pci e slots one 16x and one 4x. the only way you will need a extreme striker is if you have a 1920 by 1200 or higher resolution monitor and what to play at the highest settings, then you will be able to get an 8800 gtx or ulta sli. but if you have a 22" 1680 by 1050 your better of jus getting the gigabyte board and 8800 gtx and keeping your 8600 gts so that you can have quad monitors.

i will be ging sli in the near future like a month or so i haope my main goal is to get it up and running with at least one video card then after i get to college im going to get another of the same or i might go ahead and upgrade to the 8800 if they come down allittle more. but i want a board with the capabilities for the machine to upgrade nicely for a while so i dont have to get new hardware all the time to be able to use the reasonably new technology ato the fullest

right now a good 19 inch 4:3 not from any mainstream brand but adventually i want to move up to at first 2 24 inch wide screens or go sli sooner with better cars and go with 4 19-21 inch monitors of 4:3 ratio

Reply to alexthatpyro

oh but after i get the 24 wide then ill put the 19s on the side of it to make ether tri or quad depending on the quality and fps i get with all of them hooked up

well when you run sli you can only use 1 monitor from one of the graphics cards, therefore you will have to deactivate sli when your not gaming to use all 4 monitors. as im doing the same but i want 3 monitors instead.

i dont know if you can but for sli i have to have the same type of card but i was wonderong if it is a pcie x16 slot but with the pcie x8 power or something like that on the mobo then could i move the 8600 to that slot and still have it work and have quad two off of it and one off the other two cards

well there is the 680i chiplet from nvidia which is sli has two 16x PCi -E lanes, and the P35 chiplet which has one 16x and 4x lane. so you could out two 8800gtx's in 680i but when you are planning a game you will only see one monitor working. there is no board which supports 3 graphics cards and supports sli. hence why you are better just getting an 8800 gtx or ultra and a p35 board, allowing you to use the 8800 gtx when playing games, then use the 8800 gts and the 8600 gt when you are not. sli is good but only if you put everything to the max and a 1920 by 1200 monitor or higher. but remember that the monitor you are going to buy probably is running at 60hz therefore can only show 60 frames a second. as a result if you have sli and are outputting 120 frames you will only be able to see 60 frames a second, unless you get a 100 hz monitor. therefore its better just to get a single 8800 gtx and keep your 8600 gt so that you have have all your monitors working at tha same time.

so what im getting from what your saying is it usless to go up to that board because i woln't be using all the capability. makes sence

which p35 board would you recomend. but besides the mobo is there any thing else you would recommend for the system or change it to make it better

Reply to alexthatpyro

well, i would recommend the gigabyte p35-ds3p, one of the best p35 boards, and it supports two graphics cards like i said. and the p35 board supports the new 45nm cpu's which will be coming out the out of the year, the 680i may support it with a bios flash but it hasnt been confirmed. i would go with the p35 any day, over the 680i. you are basically futrue proofing yourself.

i would get two hard drives one for the os and programs and one for files like music and stuff like. saves time if you want to reoad the OS. this is a very good hdd the seagate barracuda, i would get 2x 320 gb. or you could get a raptor harddrive as they are mmuch faster you could try two and put them in raid 0, this will increase perfomance, but this comes at a price but if you dont care about one or two seconds just get the seagate hard drive.

then your ram i would recommend the crucial ballistics 800mhz or the ocz platinum revision 2 800mhz, both very good ram, i would get 2gb but if you do heavy 3d rendering i would get 4 gb but you will need a 64 bit OS, like 64 bit vista.

For the Powesupply i dont think you need 700 watts unless you want an 8800 gtx sli and 8 hard drives. i would go for the Corsair HX Series 620W , gives you loads of room to upgrade.

case- the p182 or the p182 very quiet and roomly for a large Graphics. but your case is fine.

if you are overclocking i would get a cpu cooler like Coolermaster MARS . as the q6600 does create alo of heat.

other than that it seems fine, great build!
