I've been over at nvidia's forums where a website www.laptopvideo2go.com was mentioned if you wanted to update your nvidia mobile display driver (and some desktop ones) that won't update with their current driver releases.
Anyway, is there a site that offers the same idea but for ATI GPU's?
I know I can get updated mobile drivers from ATI themselves, but there are a few notebook vendors that are unsupported.
What ATI mobile chipset? All models using post radeon m6 gpus or integrated should work with appropriate catalyst software.

mobile graphics processors in laptops all (or just about all of them) have unique hardware id's so when you try to update the drivers with direct drivers from nvidia or ati they wont be recognized - there are a few ways around it (driver mods and force install/update etc) but generally your stuck with whatever the oem (the manufacturer of your laptop) puts up on the web.
For desktop video cards its easy just download the latest drivers from ATi or Nvidia's website (altho nvidia have ditched geforce4 mx support in there latest, and ati has stoped supporting older cards below 9200's etc for the newer driver sets)
The laptop that I had in mind belongs to my brother - it's an Acer with a 9700 GPU. Only driver on their site (last ime I checked) is the same driver that it came with, which is very outdated. ATI driver doesn't reconise it unfortunately.
well, I have a laptop with mobility x1600 that is not officially supported by the ATI. I can download the "Installation Verification Software" but it will not allow me to continue installation
However:
if I download just the drivers from another site (those 30+ meg packages), they install fine. So maybe you should try it that way ? I had success with pretty much all catalyst versions I tried so far, the only one's that caused problems were 2006-12. currently Im using 2007-5 and no problems whatsoever, everything works fine, even the PowerPlay

Thanks
Omega drivers usually install fine onto any ATI laptop chipset including the 9xxx series- i use omega drivers on my mobile 9600 and they install and run fine.
