Hey I'm new to this forum, and was hoping someone could help me here. I built a new system recently, but have a problem with the the IDE port: after succesfully installing windows XP from a dvd drive (IDE), when I finally reach windows it won't read anything from it. Opened device manager, the drive is there (no warnings or errors) but different messages appear like "can't read," when I try to open the unit and strange characters appear in the few files it is able to read off the drive . I have tried reinstalling windows using two different versions, using 3 different IDE cables, power cables, using other dvd units and nothing worked. Tried using a working hdd (ide) and it would ask me if i wanted to format it. I think it may be a driver problem, but what driver? Tried looking in BIOS and drives are succesfully recongized. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Dim, since you have a different problem and a different MB than the original poster, why don't you start your own thread? Be sure to include full details on all the components of your system, what OS you are using, and so forth.

The problem solved!

It was over improper IDE loop. After I've changed it all become fine.

I was in confuse because of in DOS mode all was working fine (Win XP intalled from CD successfully). Now I understand, that XP unlike DOS supports technologies like DMA and therefore uses additional line in the loop, which obviously was broken.

PS: OS is XP SP2
