More Information

My Foxconn C51XEM2AA-8EKRS2H seems to have an issue with the latest nForce 590 SLI chipset drivers for AMD (v9.35). The drivers seem to take a long time (about a minute or so) to initialize the chipset after startup. So, none of the ethernet ports load, and the USB ports are not fully functional (i.e. any new items plugged in during startup won't install).

The hanging, as described previously, lasts for about a minute or so, and it's not the computer being slow -- there's simply nothing happening. The hard drive isn't churning away at anything, there doesn't seem to be any CPU activity -- the computer just hangs there.

The older chipset drivers direct from Foxconn, however (v9.15, I think...), suffers no hanging in loading the chipset drivers -- everything loads immediately upon startup.

I did manage to try v9.53 for Intel boards (accidentally, actually), and for some reason it does work (seemingly perfectly), but I'm not sure if there are any consequences for using chipset drivers that are supposed to be for Intel boards on an AMD board, despite both having the 590 SLI chipset.

So, to recap:

  • There's a significant hang during startup for the v9.35 drivers, but everything works fine after that.

  • The drivers for the chipset directly from Foxconn work fine.

  • The v9.53 drivers for Intel 590 SLI seems to work, but I don't know whether there are any undesired effects over time.

Any thoughts? And, btw, I'm using Windows XP Professional w/ SP2, everything up to date. The CPU's an X2 3600+, and I have 4GB of DDR2 800.

More Information

I have 2 Foxconn C51XEM2AA-8EKRS2H motherboards and have the same issue with both of them when installing XP Pro SP2. The problem doesn't occur when installing Vista x86 or x64.

However, I found--as you probably have by now--that the problem goes away by itself after awhile. I don't know why this is, but after I use the computers for a certain length of time (I never kept track of how long) there is no longer a delay when booting up.

Hope this helps.
