I recently built a C2D rig using Antec Sonata 2 case which comes with a 450 watt PSU. It doesn't have a PCI - E plug so I got a 7600 card. Looking at an 8800 GTS and was wondering if there is an adapter for a standard power plug from the PSU to be used as a PCI - E plug? Anyone done that? I think the 450 watts is enough total for my system as there isn't any overclocking and only two SATA drives and a DVD rw.

You need a better PSU and most that come with a case are crap PSUs.

1st, yes there is a "Y" adaptor that will connect two 2 HDD Molex connectors and provides a 6 Pin PCI-e connector. My X1950XT come with one (didn't need it.)

2nd Agree with the two previous posters, for a 8800 anything I would recommend a new P/S.

The PSU in the Sonata case is from the Smartpower 2.0 line so it isn't shabby. I don't know if the total wattage is enough though. The specs for the 8800 say it requires 26 A on the 12 volt rail and the PSU is rated at 12v1 15 amps, 12v2 17 amps. Will that hack it?

Thanks for all the replies.

Sorry to bump this but I am still not clear if the total current is enough to handle an 8800gts?
