Hello all
I am working on a socket a xp 2200 system, the cpu is running at a hot temperature at idle 51 to 54C, and up to 61C at full load. The case that it's in has a front 80mm fan, and the wiring is neat courtesy of yours truly, also i applied actic 5 thermal compound to no avail. I tried to same cpu in another socket a system with front, side ,a nd rear 80mm fans, it ran at 42-45 C which seems about right for socket a cpu's. However the case that this system is in has mo mounts for a rear or side fan. My questions is, could i use a pci mounted fan to perhaps cool the system down aby blowing air out the back, the case actually feels warm sometimes. Thanks in advance for your input.

Get some power tools and chop some holes in that antique case. a 120mm or 92mm fan hole in the top(exaust), back(exaust), and/or side(intake) would do wonders. The case isn't sutable for today's hardware the only way to make it usable is to mod the hell out of it. ;)

One more thing. If you are using the stock cooler on the socket A processor, lap it. You will get a noticeable drop in temps (a 5C+ drop with every one I have done)

50c is fine plus is it summer where you are? cause that makes a difference.
I like to keep my computer as kewl aas poss. so if you can add another fan why not it will keep things running longer normaly

My Athlon XP 3000+ runs 48C idle and 52C load and the case has one fan i front and one in rear (but the GPU blocks the air from coming up) both fans are 80mm.

@ ghost dragon:I had thought about modding the case but it's not my case, so i didnt want to risk damaging it.
@ little scapper: apparently between 50 and 60C was preety normal, but when i had a xp 2500 it ran about 38c idle and not hotter than 45C full load.
@sirkillallot: I am in michgan and the temps this week are in the low to mid eighties, with high humidity of course.
