How tight is too tight?

Hello,

I was installing a zerotherm BTF90 heatsink on my intel core 2 quad q6700 processor, and I was wondering how much I should tighten the spring-loaded mounting screws. I had tightened them until the springs became fairly stiff and the screws would no longer turn, which I assumed to be the point at which the correct amount of pressure is applied for the lga 775 socket. Was I wrong to assume this? Is my heatsink on too tight? I only hope I haven't damaged my CPU in the process.

When you can't screw it down comfortably. Too much & you'll strip the screws. The hsf shouldn't wobble easily & the temps should be better than those of a stock hsf.

Thanks, I'll make sure to tighten it only as much as I need to to get good temps.

So I guess I should never tighten it so much that the springs are fully compressed then?

well if you do then you might bend the motherboard... that happened to me and it keeps on happening everytime
