I just bought a brand new Sharp 42 " LCD TV with full 1080P. Love the TV
but i seem to have a issue with my X1950 Pro vid card. I bought it off Futureshop for like 1 month ago under the impression that it would be strong enough to play videos and be used in Maya /3d max on my tv.
Now however my TV only have 2 HDMI and 1 S video and lots color coding inputs. And the X1950 card only have two DVI so as you can imagine i bought the PS3 DVI-HDMI cable(yeah im a cheapo) anyway i still can only see 1280 x 1024. So Futureshop has offered to swap the X1950 256 Ram for the newer 2600XT 512 ram card from Ati.
Im torn since multiple tests says at the current time the X1950 CREAMS the newer card except in DX10 whichas the X1950 doesnt support and henceforth get creamed in. But what should i do?
All replies are welcome
Even those who offer how i can solve this display problem.
My specs for kicks

AMD 6000
ASUS M2N32 SLI wifi edition (the 590 Vista one)
4 GB DDR2
Vista Ultimate 32 version(for now)
1280 GB (4 x 320 GB)
Maya and 3d Studio max(latest versions from work)
hmm im sure it shoulld be more here but i cant remember what at the moment.

If you could, try to get a 1950xt with 512mb memory. Its a lil more, but itll work for what you want. The 256 at that res isnt enuff. Plus either the 1950 pro or the 2600xt wont push anything serious at that res.

Id suggest you get a 8800 GTS or an ATI equivalent. You can get a 8800GTS with rebates for like 250 or slightly less.

This is a little out of my league but I'm gonna take a pop at it.. The "lots of color coded inputs" you mention are your High Def component inputs. I do believe with those inputs you will achieve your best resolution rather than HDMI or DVI. Again, I'm not 100% as I do not own any high def video equipment but I did help a friend of mine hook up a new 50" LCD TV a few months back. So, if your current card can push the 1080p resolutions, I don't see why it won't work if it's hooked up correctly with the right cabling.

by seeing 1280x1024, do you mean in games, 3d apps, etc or it's the max resolution that the drivers state as supported. I know that there is an option in CCC that allows you to add the 720p and 1080i resolutions to selectable options for display, not sure but that might be it.

Most cards should be able to support 1080p while showing only 2D images. I've managed to get an old Nvidia Riva TNT card to display 720p for watching movies w/o a problem.

Ok im in Canada and unless Futureshop have the Videocard for max 300 CDN im so not gonna get that. And back to the Resolution issue. I found out that i had to disconnect the old DVI-VGA adapter so it didnt see it as "Multiple monitors attached" and that solved the Resolution problem. However the colors in Vista looks sorta Outwashed at 1920 x 1200. Would a swap to the 2600 XT 512 or any sub 300 CDN card solve my problem?

I think that with 300cdn you can get the x1950xtx wich is really a monster and i don't think it will have any problems with that resolution.
