Looking for a new HDD for my o/s and apps (would prefer something which scores 5.9 in WEI!) though not after a Raptor (too expensive) and don't plan for a raid system.
So any suggestions?

Raptors are the best and simplest, you can also use just the outer cylinders of a 750gb drive, but that is a waste. On e-bay, you can now buy 15K scsi drives cheap. Pair that with a controller like an adaptec 19160n pci card , and you get an os drive that is similar to the raptor.

True, you could use a Raptor... But then you're limited in storage capacity, and if you need more you're stuck with buying another hard disc. Which is a waste. ;)

Or...

You could buy a great honkin big 7200.11 HDD:

(Yes, it scores a 5.9.)

------------------------------ Which Chip? Well, it depends on which set of thieving b@stardz you choose to support: The ones who use insider trading to enrich themselves while running their company into the ground? Or the ones who illegally pay vendors to not support the first group?

WD7500AAKS. Hitachi and Seagate also make some good 750 GB drives, but I like this WD model better after reading the reviews. 1 TB drives are also fast but more $/GB.
