Alright, I'll soon be getting an 8800GTX from FOXCONN (factory OC it was $470 with MIR :D ) and I think I'll be getting an HR-03 to replace the brick of aluminum called a stock heatsink.

What sort of fan should I mount onto it?

this fan MOVES AIR, it is as loud as a hurricane. I have this and an HR-03 cooler on my 8800 GTX, if you dont mind some noise get this fan. ( hope the link works ) BTW, I have recorded Idle temps of my 8800 as low as 42 C.....impressive. Good luck.

You don't need anything that moves insane amounts of air. I have this cooler on my x1900xtx and only a reused 80mm fan zippy tied to it on a fan control. I can turn it half way and the difference between that and full blast isn't noticeable. (I have a temp reading when in 3d from ATI Tray Tools) the cooler itself just dissipates heat very well.

I recommend this fan

it is 120mm and gives 114.7 CFM airflow

you will also need a fan speed controller as it is a loud fan, and you will need to control the speed until you find a rpm thats quiet but cools well, after that, you should be able to get even higher overclocks

it is better to have more fan speed than you need because it is better than spending $10 on a fan just to find out that it is a little short on airflow, so go with the fastest you can get then use a speed controller to lower the rpm to a range that your ok with

My buddy has this fan on an hr-03 with a GTX and it's so loud it reminds me of sitting next to the engine in an airline: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835705012

Just get something that moves a good amount of air. A fan controllers isn't a bad idea, some of these fans come with them.

Very interesting. Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I'm gonna go with the Scythe S-Flex 'f' model, it apparently is very quiet and has ~63.5 CFM of air displacement. Now to just scrounge up $75... :??:

Scythe Makes GREAT fans. They are reliable and quiet. I dont think you are going to need anymore airfow than that to cool it off.
