Will this work for my situation?

Hi everyone. I just ordered a system and I think I'm going to have power issues, if not now, then perhaps in the future.

Here's what I ordered:

Case - Centurion 534
Mobo - GA-P35 DS3R
RAM - G.Skill DDR2 800 2 x 1GB
GPU - x1950pro
CPU - E4400 Allendale
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 320GB (perpendicular recording)
DVD - Sony NEC DVD r/w 18x

The PSU I ordered with that bunch was the Thermaltake 430w found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153023&Tpk=thermalt ake%2b430w

And after thinking about it, and asking a few people I was told I'd need a bigger one... so I purchased the Antec NeoHE 500w from buy.com After reading some reviews for that PSU and thinking about things a little I was thinking maybe it wasn't a great idea.

I know it should power that system just fine, but I'm looking at upgrading to the q6600 and/or the 8800gts 640mb in the near future (unless I just send back what I ordered and do it now... we'll see) and I was thinking that 500w may or may not end up powering the q and the 8800.

So I guess my question... is if the 500 will power the q and the 8800 or if I'll for sure need a bigger psu? This whole process is super frustrating and I guess I should have done more research before ordering... even though I've been researching, asking, and learning since March... ugh.

Thanks for any advice or help you can give.

The 620 would be enough to run a q66 and the 8800gts 640?

Thanks :D

Money is an option.. I like to keep it 130 or less.

I reckon you will not need more than 350w even after your upgrades so a 520w Corsair would be more than enough and a 620w would be Overkill with a capitol O. check out my profile and you will see that I am prepared to put my money where my mouth is.

Well right now I'm running almost the same setup you want to run, Q6600, P-35-DS3R, 2gb g.skill, 8800gts 320, all on an enermax 485w psu. The thing does push out some warm air while gaming, but otherwise stays fairly cool. I am, however planning to buy the OCZ 700w in the near future just to be safe.

This might be kind of off topic, but I had a question about a PSU that might be somewhat close to what this thread is talking about. I recently put together my system and I used a 500 watt power supply. I wanted to know if anyone with maybe a litlle more experiance would have any thoughts? I have a cool Max 500 watt PSU. http://www.coolmaxusa.com/productDetailsPower.asp?item=CP-400&details=featur es&subcategory=120mm&category=single
well similar to this. Any ideas on what the quality of this might be?

Your link is broken, so I had a google and found this http://hi-techreviews.com/reviews/CXI500B/CXI500B_P1.html if it's yours then the review is quite favourable, but I don't know of that PSU myself so I have no opinion on it.

Thank you mousemonkey!!

So given that information...

This is what my build will look like (sometime next week after all the RMA'ing is done... lol)

Case - Centurion 534 (black one)
PSU - Antec NeoHE 500w
Mobo - GA-P35 DS3R
CPU - Q6600 Kentsfield
GPU - GeForce 8800GTS 640MB
RAM - G.Skill 2x1GB DDR2 800 PC2 6400
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 320GB
DVD - Sony NEC DVD r/w 18x
Monitor - Acer 20" 1680x1050 max resolution

Thanks for all the help :D

Do you think I should get any extra fans for the case or any aftermarket coolers for the cpu/gpu? I've read a lot about things like that but am unsure how to tell if it's necessary. My room is awfully hot during the day... above 75 degrees typically.

You're welcome my friend, I would hold off getting any fans for the moment, see how the case is for airflow first but I would consider a CPU cooler, I like the Arctic Freezer Pro 7 simply because it's cheap and it works but I don't know if any aftermarket coolers are available for that card yet.

I'm new to all this, do you need to buy the paste separate or does it come with the hsf? It looks like that one got good reviews... and the price is certainly right. I'll be interested to see what temps the computer runs at... what's the best way to find out? (what it runs at)

The HSF that comes with your CPU will have paste applied already as does the Arctic Freezer should you decide to get one of those, I myself have never had any heat issues with the standard paste so I can't knock it.
For monitoring I use a combination of Rivatuner v2.02 and Everest v4.10.1062Beta as this recognises the P35 chipset and earlier versions do not.
