I guess at the price of $80 its a retail version with possible software? Anywhere else for a reasonable price? Newegg has it for $36 OEM, maybe this is the way to go.

yea i'de say that's you're best bet. i mean, $36 for a dvd burner is a good deal how ever you look at it.

Samsung's oem comes with a nero disc and a disc with a manual.

If EIDE vs SATA is of no consequence, you can alway go with this LG model. It specifically lists Nero and Power DVD as included.

Almost half the price of the Samsung and included dual layer support.
