Should I wait?

I'm planning to get a new PC. I am a moderate gamer (meaning I strive for 80-100 fps and above-high quality but not MAXIMUM). I want to play the newest games for at least 2-3 years on my PC.

I want to get a new PC this week but I hear that there's PCIe 2.0 coming out in the next few months. The question is if I should wait?

These are my current specs and I've had the PC since Dec 2004, so its been 3 years almost:
P4 3.2 GhZ
512 MB DDR Kingston
(AGP) Radeon 9200 SE 128 MB ATI
300 W PSU
Asus P5P800 w/ intel 865 chipset

The thing is, I'm only getting a new PC because I need better graphics and this mobo can't handle pci-e. What should I do? Thanks.

because if i upgrade, i only have to spend about 300 CAD. If I buy a new PC:
mobo - about 130
Vid card - about 180
ram - about 80
case / psu - about 60

its already 400

also there is my question of whether to wait for pci-e 2.0

i don't want to spend too much on a cpu sinec there is a possiblity of using my current p4 3.2 ghz which is still pretty fast. Buying top of the line is a complete waste. I'm looking at E6750 or E6300. Whats Q6600?

RAM u mean 800 MhZ right?

By now I'm halfway through the list. I think I forgot to tell you my budget. I don't want to bust over 600-700 USD or 800 CAD over this new PC.

Already got a new hard drive. Looking for a SLI-ready mobo but after looking at charts, SLi does not make much of a difference (although it may later on) currently.

well, putting a pentium 4 in that rig is pointless, and it its 4 years old its probably not the 775 socket. so i would prob go with the e6550 and good powerful but cheap cpu at 2.33ghz. the q6600 is a quad core, so if you want to have this computer for a number of years quad is the way to go. but it costs 295$ at newegg. very good for editing video decoding, otherwise go with th e6550.

yes i mean 800 mhz sorry.

sli is a waste of money since you are on a budget, unless you have a load of money to spend and playing at a resolution of 1920 by 1200 or higher, there is no point. might as well get the x1950 pro or 8800 gts.
so stay clear of of SLI/crossfire, as 7900gs SLI is no where as good as the 8800 GTS single card, you just better of upgrading to the next best. and not all games support sli, some games have a -ve affect with sli, decreasing the frames per a second card.

Ok. I will give you Canadian prices. CAD prices are only maybe 5-10 percent higher than their american counterparts.

For anyone who read the 1st post, I have decided to just get a new PC with PCI-e 1.1.

CPU: Intel C2D E6750 (heard it's very OCable) $234.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=01483 4&cid=CPU.84

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Socket 775 Intel P35 $155
Is this better than the DS3L. Heard this one was good for OC. Also why is this one so much more expensive than the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R Socket 775 Intel P35 + ICH9R that's $255.(Btw, I can go for a lower mobo)
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pi d=014621&cid=MB.157

Memory: OCZ (OCZ2G8002GK) DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz Gold XTC 2GB (2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit $85.99 after $34 rebate
I picked this RAM over yours because it has a better 5-5-5-12 timing.
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd& pid=011680&cid=RAM.835

Video Card: Don't know. 8800 GTS is $337. BFG.
http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid =013149&cid=999.243.390
Don't know where to go here but thats too expensive.

Please offer me suggestions. Btw, I broke the budget there xD.

CPU- very good cpu and like you said good to OC can reach 4ghz, with good cooling

MOBO- i would say stick with the DS3R, no point getting the other one just a waste of money.

ram- very good too

Video card_ as you are on a tight budget i woudl stick with the ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB 206$ will be good running games up to 1600 by 1050.

you haven't included the PSU or case

PSU-Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450W that should do the job

case-http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=006377&cid=CS.858

dsaver: " im a amd guy so im no help here"

you can if you can tell me if I should get an AMD CPU over an Intel c2D =D..

But I do believe that unless I am going for the lower INtel C2ds, that its not worth it to get an AMD at all for now xP
