Americans favor news broadcast over YouTube citizen video news

A recent Zogby poll showed that most Americans still like the regular evening news broadcast over citizen video news reports posted on YouTube. Citizen news reports are basically where a regular Joe records a news event with a small camcorder or even a cellphone camera. However in the 25 to 34 demographic, one out of four would watch citizen videos over regular broadcasts. Read more

Good Morning!

For those of you who've never heard of it, Top Gear is a "motoring"program that is head and shoulders above anything broadcast in the world [/only slight sarcasm]. Those of you with any taste know what it's like; those who don't should go here www.bbc.com/topgear
www.topgear.com
www.finalgear.com

Recently, the BBC showed the Polar Special on their free-to-air HD channel (finalgear even has a 1080p version!!!). Now, the new series is out in October, but the only places that I've come across in the UK to show BBC-HD are Sky and Virgin.

I refuse to give money to Sky (I believe Rupert Murdoch to be one of the most evil men on the planet - not in a personal sense; but what he represents is completely opposite to my political and philosophical beliefs. He's right up there with Osama bin Laden, the Pope, Donald Trump and the cabal of b*st*ds surrounding George Bush - and I do include my current government in that cabal) and Virgin, who is not much better, is cable only... and I don't live near Cables.

Apologies for rant... now, given that the bbc is free-to-air HD, I'd like to be able to use my license fee and watch Top Gear on my HDTV... can anyone suggest a card that will pick it up? Are there any restrictions on the signal type\coder\decoder etc? Any other issues that I'm too ignorant to know about??

I'm looking at this card:

What does everyone think?? Possible? or not?

For a quicker response you might try asking around on the AVS forums. Toms Hardware is a good resource for general hardware information and great for overclockers but advice on HD and TV tuners and whats available I think you'll find the AVS forums to be a great resource since the Forum is dedicated to just Audio/Video.

?????? NEVER HEARD OF IT???? ARE YOU INSAINE????!!!!

Top gear is the best program ever produced, not to mention its sooo funny!

now i think your question shoudl be answered. Im asuming that any HD tv tunner car should pick it up, im not entirely sure though, not sure if any "handshaking" goes on before the channels connected or weather you just use the signal.

Cheers

this is like the 4th reply I've tried, they all end up vanishing...

short answer... its not possible.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/digital/tv/tv_hd.shtml, specifically:

Quote :

The programmes are being broadcast via satellite and cable, but not on digital terrestrial as there is currently not enough space (bandwidth).

Upshot is the TV regulators have decided that the QVC Shopping Channel, the Quiz Channels, and that useless waste of space (Insert Channel Here)+1 are more important than free-to-air HD broadcasting.

How much kickback did they get from Murdoch and the other broadcasting fat cats, I wonder??? Its enough to go on a murderous rampage...

Thanks for replies - AVS forum was unavailable... and Top Gear... is great!
