Ok. I will give you Canadian prices. CAD prices are only maybe 5-10 percent higher than their american counterparts.

For anyone who read my 1st post, I have decided to just get a new PC with PCI-e 1.1 since someone said I can plug PCI-e 2.0 into a PCI-e 1.1. My budget is 600-700 USD / CAD.

CPU: Intel C2D E6750 (heard it's very OCable) $234.99 http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] &pid=01483 4&cid=CPU.84

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Socket 775 Intel P35 $155
Is this better than the DS3L. Heard this one was good for OC. Also why is this one so much more expensive than the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R Socket 775 Intel P35 + ICH9R that's $255.(Btw, I can go for a lower mobo)

Memory: OCZ (OCZ2G8002GK) DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz Gold XTC 2GB (2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit $85.99 after $34 rebate
I picked this RAM over yours because it has a better 5-5-5-12 timing.

Video Card: Don't know. 8800 GTS is $337. BFG.

Don't know where to go here but thats too expensive.

Case: Don't know but with at least 600 PSW im assuming.

Please offer me suggestions. Btw, I broke the budget there xD.

I hate to break this to you but if you wanna get all you can out of a 8800GTS you'll prolly need to expand your budget a little. The main components are expensive, but the case, PSU and other various bits and pieces are also have to be taken into consideration. Yes graphics cards are too expensive, ATI didn't offer much competition so prices didn't change much recently.

You could always get a cheaper graphics card, that'll keep you happy/ok for now and later when you have more money buy 2x8800s or something.

Case suggestion: get an Antec P182 SE, the shiny one that's a bit expensive but very good quality and just nice and neat.

What do you mean I need more to get most out of my 8800 GTS.

Case: Looking towards Antec Sonata III

And as for the video card, I WANT to get the 8800GTS but its a bit expensive. I can afford it... but what do you guys recommend? Should I stick w/ BFG or go to XFX or w/e. Should I get something lower than 8800GTS

maziar: ur link doesn't work, and is it necessary to buy 8800GTS. It seems like top of the line next to 8800GTX and I'm not too fond of that since you are almost always paying for an overpriced vid card.

if you a good gaming pc then i would get the 8800 gts but if not get the x1950 xt or x1950 pro. but i would recommend the 8800 gts just look at the charts are there is a huge difference.

Don't bother with overclocked cards unless they are priced similarly. From both eVGA and BFG their warranties cover simple overclocking, so don't waste any additional money on a superclocked or OC version unless you're really averse to learning how to overclock.

I don't have time to check prices, but be sure to check NCIX, ANITEC, and a few others.

NCIX has an eVGA for $279 after rebate;
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=22688&vpn=320-P2-N811-AR&manufacture=eVGA&promoid=1065

and a BFG GF8800GTS for $308 after rebate;
http://www.ncix.com/products/index....2EI&manufacture=BFG Technologies&promoid=1065

Those are both great companies, but man, eVGA and the cheapest price, that's like Christmas best of both worlds. Then learn to get comfortable with OC'ing and push the core and memory a bit more for your BoxingDay present. :sol:

PS, use tags around your long links, that ... the whole link instead of getting cut off.

Just thought I'd mention that The geforce 8800 GTS or above requires at least a 400 watt PSU. and its quite large, so you will need a full sized case. The vga charts tell the truth, the 8800 is better than the X1900 series. hope this might help.

The GTS is about the same size as the X1900 and GF7900 series. The GTX is significantly longer, but more standard ATX cases will fit it, whereas the GTX is tougher to fit.

There are lists out there of the cases that fit. This one may be helpful, it's from the store OverclockersUK;

Also I have went over the budget? Including tax, this system cost 982 CAD and I still have not got a case. Any suggestions on how to minimize costs? Should I sacrifice CPU for GPU? thanks

Planning to get a 600 or 700W (not sure how much extra I should get for upgrade space) with detachable cables. Probably a corsair model but (expensive) =o
