I have been researching monitors lately as im looking at buying one 24"+ for getting back into the gaming world with a few awesome titles out and just around the corner. I will be sticking with my current 7900GT till the G92 comes out and i can get my hands on one.
My question is should i go with a 24 a 27 or 30... From my research the Dell's look to be almost the best in all three sizes, with the 24 and 27 i get a res of 1900x1200 which my 7900gt should be able to hand ok on most games till the G92 comes round and i also get the range of connections at the back. With the 30" i get a great big hunkin 2560x1900 to play with which the 7900gt prolly wont handle on gaming (although the G92 should resolve that) and i also get the lack of connections at the back. With the 27" i have notice no -HC on the model number, which supposedly makes them handle gaming better?
Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Can't you just grab an LG HDTV 32" 1080P and use it as a TV as well? They are pretty cheap, like 1000$ if you shop around. I'd probably go that route...

Just purchased a 24" and it's amazing. For gaming it gets to be a little large at my desk. If I was a little further back it would be ok. I couldn't imagine a 27" let alone 30"...
in other words, unless you a) are certain you will upgrade your graphic cards (probably to something sli) and b) think it likely you will use the screen as a tv later on, don't get a 30" and don't even go near 2560x1600
The HC extension on the model number is an indication that the color gamut is 92% accurate. This simply means that professionals designers that really need the rendered colors to be accurate, can use this monitor. Most LCD's have an accuracy in the mid 70th percentile.
I own two of the Dell 24" (2407WFP-HC) and they are fantastic for gaming. I would definitely recommend getting the HC edition. I believe there were some other updates as well, including a better refresh rate.
Like steviep831 said.... 24" is pretty big and I have to scoot the screen all the way to the back of my desk in order to game on it.

I've just gotten rid of my Gateway 24", it was actually too hot (at the screen, so you could feel it on your face all of the time, and it was much much too bright, had brightness at zero to make it just about viewable.), not sure if that is just a gateway issue or not, I'm now using an HP 22" and its cool to the touch.
The point is, try and get to see and touch one before you buy, as it might be not be acceptable for erognomic reasons.
i use a 24" and it is not too hot(not hot at all) and is not too bright. Must just be the gateway or maybew a faulty screen, or a cheap panel being used.

You could always get two 22" monitors for that price. I prefer dual setups.
I have 2 19" samsungs atm and will use one in tandem with whatever i get, untill i upgrade the 7900gt then i will run the Dell off the new GPU (prolly a G92) and the 2 19"either side with the 7900GT sound good?

Go then with the 27inch monitor.
Both the 24inch and 27inch have the same 1920x1200 resolution.
I think i will be going with the 27" i just want a bit more size than the 24"

chookman, if you can afford it 30" all the way!!!!
I thought about it dont you worry but at 2560x1600 you really need dual GPU and i dont have an SLI mobo in which case id have to go out and buy 2 ATi cards on top...which aint cheap.

Yeh i looked at that... not only dont i like the whole speaker thing, i dont like the available connectivity HDMI, no DVI and apparently the component is not good. Fast response but suffers in the quality stakes.
