Rootkits coming to your motherboard

The recent media attention on rootkits has been focused on installed software, but according to some security professionals at the Black Hat Federal security conference, these kits could be installed on your motheboard's BIOS chip in the near future. Often running a programming language of their own, these chips store the basic command and control functions of the computer. i have p3 700 mhz compaq pc i tried to install 80gb hdd but bios not dectecting its size. I tried all option at bios i.e. lba/large/auto also detection option auto/none/manual.

when i use auto detection pc remain in detecting conditin for hours. and when i use manual it shows secondary masater disk failure.

Pl remember bios is recognizing hdd (its name) but unbale to recognize its size. guide how to solve this problem

Are you running Windows XP pre service pack 1 by chance? If so it will only be showing you around 37GB or so.

Are you confusing with the 48-bit LBA support issue? Original XP did not support 48-bit LBA, but SP1 and SP2 do. Without that support, XP can handle HDD volumes up to 137GB - NOT 37!

No worries, my solution did not even make sense anyway. :P (Too be honest, i do not even remember writing that)

It was his bios not recognizing the HD size, not windows.
