Hi,

I have an old computer system (maybe 5 years) where my printer connected via a parallel cable and port. Now I have a new system. However, there is no parallel port anymore to connect my printer to. It seems that most printers today connect via a USB port.

My question is this. Is there a way to connect my old printer to my new system? Is there an interface cable that goes from parallel to USB?

Or do I need to get a new printer?

Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I wonder if my old card can be swapped into my new system. Will have to check that out.

You'd be better off to get a new printer.

Yes, seriously, printers are dirt cheap nowadays, you can get one for around $30-$40 on sale.

I've used a USB->Serial cable, and USB->PS/2 before, and they were hit and miss. For the price you'll pay for a USB->Parallel, I'd just buy a new printer. You'll pay $20+ for a cable at Best buy, and you can prolly get a new one for $50

Yep; get a new one...

Yup...that's what I'm thinking about doing. The PCI/Parallel cards are going for around $40 here. And the USB/Parallel cables are going for about half that. Yeah, printers are cheap these days and I only need a very basic one.

However, the problem I'm having is finding a nice small one where the printouts don't feed out into the back of the printer.

Any suggestions?
