Hello,
I'd like to buy a new HD for my laptop but I'm a bit lost between sata and sata2. This is my laptop.
My actual HD is a SATA. If a search in shops, some disks in SATA categories are also beign referenced as SATA II disks ! Are those two technologies compatible ?

Thanks,
regards.

A SATA II disk is backwards compatible with SATA I controllers so a SATA II drive will work on your laptop but it will effectively have a bandwidth limited to SATA I. In my opinion, it's not really worth it since the SATA II transfer rates in reality are never atained due to the slow nature of the 5400rpm 2,5'' drives. A SATA I drive will do fine on your system while you won't notice any performance gains from sata II drive

Ok, so
SATA : 1.5 Gbit/s
SATA II : 3.0 Gbit/s
is that right ?

Right now I have a 4200 rpm drive and I want to buy a 7200 rpm will this have a noticeable impact on the performances ?
regards,
Tex
