What exactly do these tools do? Are they used as an alternative to the windows formatter? I have a western digital driver so i thought i should use these tools on my next format. I'm using the windows version, does the dos version have an option format drives?

Thanks.

They partition and format drives. There are more options than in the Microsoft Windows version. You can use it in Windows or in Dos. It only does a Quick Format. Microsoft Windows gives you full format and Quick format options (Better). You can use the Microsoft Windows tools instead if you wish. I recommend doing the full format to check for any disk errors from the factory.

Im actually formatting for the second time on this drive, i will use the normal formatting procedure then, just wanted to check before doing it. As far as i know quick format deletes the FAT file, i want to clean the data.

Thanks for the reply.
