Hello everybody,

Yesterday I was working on my PC. When I finished I just turned it off as usual.
After a few hours I tried to switch it on again; it did start but the screen would not turn on and I didn't hear the beep as I usually did. I checked the LCD POSTER and I saw a DET RAM. After that the only thing I am getting from the LCD POSTER is CPU INIT.
The strange thing is that I get the CPU INIT even if the PC is turned off. I even unplugged the power wire, put it back and I am still getting the same message. Never got any DET RAM again or anything else.

I did reset the CMOS following some instructions from:
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.asp [...] uage=en-us
http://kostakiss.com/blog/2007/07/ [...] nit-error/

The only thing I do not remember what I did is that if I left the CMOS reset button for 2 hours as recommended from the first link but I do not think that reseting the CMOS needs more than just a few seconds.

Anyway after reseting the CMOS(getting the battery off and stuff) I plugged in the power cable, the LCD POSTER had the CPU INIT message even if I didn't even turn the computer on.

Any ideas? The computer has been working flawlessly for 3-4 months now. I hope I will be able to fix it myself with your help.

I do not think it's the RAM because I even turned it on with no memory modules and I got the same thing from the time I connected the power wire. I got the CPU INIT before even pushing the power button and no other messages.

I even poseted in on the ASUS forum: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.asp [...] %20Extreme

I tried to post it on the support page of ASUS and their website was not working on Firefox 2.0.0.6 or Internet Explorer 7.0(The drop down of the Product Type and the Product Model were empty on Firefox and on Internet Explorer the Product Model was empty) which is really frustrating because from one side I have the problem and on the other I cannot even post it to them. I payed so much money for this machine thus far.

My configuration:
COOLER MASTER EXTREME POWER - 650W PSU
Striker Extreme MB
KINGSTON RAM KVR800D2N5/1G - 2 MODULES
GAINWARD GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB
CORE DUO 6600

Thanks in advance

I fixed it!!!

I just pushed the BIOS chip a bit and I heart some KRATZ KRATZ KRATZ sounds.
I pushed the power button and that was it. The fist thing I did was to update my ancient BIOS 0.9xxx to 1305. Man how many versions...

The CPU INIT still stays when I turn the computer off but who cares...the sequence of messages comes ok when I turn it on.

Anyway thank god everything is cool
