More Information

My current motherboard is on the verge of death (I think... it's either the PCIe slot or my video card), and so I've decided to finally upgrade since I've been planning to for a while, anyway.

So, here's why I'm here:

I am currently running Vista-32 on an Abit AW8-Max, which has ICH8R. Vista resides on the C partition of my RAID 1+0 setup (partitioned just for my logic).

I'm going to be upgrading (sort of) to Vista-64 on a Gigabyte P35-DSR3 motherboard and an E6750, which runs ICH9R, and I'd like to know if this is this a straightforward move. I've read in several locations that I can pretty much just transplant the hard drives, but have any of you done this migration (from ICH8R to ICH9R) without losing data or any other issues? Anything I might want to know or do beforehand?

The second step will be to install Vista-64 on the transplanted RAID. I'm not thrilled about reinstalling Windows, but I'm resigned to it. ie: I'm not even going to try to upgrade from V-32 to V-64, as it doesn't seem possible from what I've read. So, a new installation of Vista-64, but keeping everything except the Vista-32 OS. Any problems you foresee here? I'll download all drivers and whatnot beforehand, I've upgraded like this many times (from Windows 95 to 98, from 98 to 98 (over and over again), from 98 to XP...), I've just never migrated a RAID array.

So, if I transplant the hard drives and run Vista-64 setup over my Vista-32 setup, does it sound like it'll work out or is there something I should know before attempting this?
It's primarily the fear of annihilating the bulk of my data that has me posting here. I'll make a backup beforehand, of course.

If this upgrade sounds like it'll have no problems, or you have some suggestion, or you can't make out what I'm asking, or whatever, let me know.

Thanks in advance.
