Hey guys, i'm buying a new rig soon.

At the moment i have an X800 pro and play at 1280x960 and thats the native res of my monitor (not sure whether it's 19 or 21 inch)

Basically i want to know whether i should get the 8800gts 320mb or 640mb, and will installing this card enable me to play at higher resolutions or is that up to the monitor?

I can make the resolution higher for windows but the monitor says input not supported

Thanks

for resolution lower than 1600x1200 or 1680x1050 , a 8800gts 320 is fine , but some games like GRAW-GRAW2-DOOM3 , need at least 512ram to run @ ultra settings ,

Those ultra settings have more to do with texture resolution than monitor resolution.

The 8800 GTS 320mb is probabkly overkill for a 1280x960 display, actually. On the bright side, it'll easily handle 4xAA and 8xAF at that resolution. :)

thats right , 8800gts 320 will perform briliiantly on those resolutions , i was just wanted him to know about those games

I think once you get your new rig your going to see how awesome it is and also want to upgrade your display to do justice for your new system. If thats going to be the case you might get a little more use out of the 640MB card over the 320MB if your considering upgrading your monitor any time soon.

Even if he upgrades his monitor to a 22" LCD, the 320MB will handle it fine.

If he plans to upgrade to a 24" LCD though, the 640 is probably the better bet.

get a 640, more memory will only help with the games coming out this holiday season...if the preliminary benchmarks are any indication however, dual 8800ultras wont even give you decent frames in DX10...so it may be a moot point...

if you want to help your cause with games coming out soon, get a 640. if you are only concerned with the current stock of games then get a 320, it plays the same or better than the 640 until you get above 1600x1200 and then it starts dying out...

I just bought my videocard ...PNY 8800 gts 320mb (500mhz GPU) Why? Because its overclocking capabilities ...
up to 651 GPU in overclocking mode and 2000 ram (none other brand can achieve this)... So u can save a lot here in clubit ...this store is even cheap that newegg ... and cost me 266.00 + 7.00 delivery ... its the best deal for your money and btw an overcloked 8800gts 320mb outperform any 8800gts 640mb even overcloked ...

Because of the high amount of ram that the 640mb has ... you can“t get higher clocks of the gpu so it performs worse...this was intended for user with monitor resolutions of 1920x1200 ...

If you use 22" 1680x1050 this card (320mb ver) is more than enough ...

Also u get a great warranty with PNY (3 years) plus (2 years more) if is registered in their website once u buy it ...
Thats a 5 years of warranty none other can give u more man ...

Just be sure to buy the "XLR8 Performance Edition" because there are others just XLR8 without this special editions that cant perform as far as the other
Thanks and heres the link for that special model...

Apparently this link is incomplete even when i post it again ...lol ...just go www.clubit.com and find the videocard by urself pny usd$265.99 in the title doesn says performance edition but has the logo in the card in blue color...

Well basically, i got this PC to allow for future releases, especially crysis and BoB:Storm of War. Both will be DX10, well BOB is DX10 ONLY. I also play GRAW2.

So in this light, if i'm playing at 1280x1024, you STILL recommend the 320mb?

IF you don't mind using Med. textures for games like GRAW1, GRAW2, Crysis... Grab a 320. It is kinda like buying a car without a trunk to save 60-70$.
