Hello,

Do you guys recommend switching video through a receiver if it has that
capability?

I typically like to connect all video sources directly to the TV, and all
audio directly to the receiver..... But some friends (non-av buffs) like
switching everything via the receiver...

Thoughts here?

Thanks,
Troy

I'm no expert, but I prefer pumping the video directly into the television,
and routing the audio through the receiver. While many high quality
receivers do video switching, and they do it well, the more chances you give
something to fail, the more likely it is to do so. The quality may or may
not be better, but it's less likely to degrade. As for audio, well, you kind
of have to route it through the receiver if you want surround sound.

Often there is a little choice. My low-budger projector has only 1
input of each type. Without recieiver I would have to switch s-video
cable manually every time I switch the video source.

I tried svideo switching with my new setup, I still need 1 hdmi and 1
component , so it only saved me one input. I found that my tv was "noisy"
with the svideo switching (2 satellites), so I am now back to the good old
way, audio to receiver, video to tv. No interference from the receiver,
picture is cleaner.
