Motorola HT1000 Programming with Vista or XP

Hi, I recently obtained the software for my Motorola HT1000. However, I only have a Vista computer and an XP computer. I saw that if you use anything other than Windows ME or later, it "Brick" the radio. Can anyone confirm this?
