I am in the process of a new build, and this is kind of where I stand so far:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz BX80562Q6600
ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme
Asus P5K Deluxe/WiFi - AP (P35 Chipset)
Antec 900
PSU Silencer 610 EPS12V
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Thermalight HR-03GT (Cooler for Video)
Crucial Ballistic DDR2 PC2 - 6400 2GB(1GBX2) BL2KIT12864AA804
(Two) WD Caviar SE16 SATA HD 750GB, 3 GB/s, 16MB Cache, 7200 RPM
Lite-On Black 20xDVD+R 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner w/ Light Scribe #LH-20A1L

A couple of people suggested to go with a higher end cooler so I came up with a couple here. However I am concerned if on whether they work with side mounted motherboards like in the Antec 900? Can you put coolers this big horizontally without causing stress or problems on the CPU? Will they fit in the Antec 900? Are any of these other coolers better?

Tuniq Tower 120 fits in my Antec 900 case and there is a slot in the upper sidewall to hang the overhanging part of this heavy unit with a 1/2" strap. Have OC'd my Q6600 up to 3.5GHz.

TT120 fits, very heavy HS/f (doen't look too good with window on in my view but brilliant cooler)

Thermalright ultra120 will be lighter, if my experiences with my thermalright XP-120 are anything to go by.

Both are good, better than the others

Zalman cooler isn't that much better than their 9500, and that, nowadays is outpaced. Scythe ninja is okay but not the best bet, thermalright in my opinion will be the coolest (and sexiest ;)  )

I have an antec 900 with thermalright ultra 120 mounted hrizonally with one fan blowing heat straight up to Antec's massive extractor, just to let you know you will have to take the side panel off and remove the plastic fan holder for it to fit in but it's no problem.

This combo keeps my 6000+ @3.4 1.56vcore at a cool 46 C load :)  . Highly recommended bits of kit!!! (again see lapping guide sometimes ultra 120 not up to spec) However, mine was fine. You should get an awsome overclock with that kit and most probably won't be limited by heat :D .

I have the 900 on its way to me now along with the 5000 Blackbox. I have the 9700, but I am thinking about the ultra 120, too. Glad to see that it will fit, albeit with a little modding.

closed_deal I have my ultra extreme in my antec 900 horizontally without any case mob whatsoever... All i needed was to cut a corner off my optional door fan as it was overlapping my Ultra fan and i couldn't put the door on... apart from that I didn't have to remove anything. Maybe it's because of the DS3 having the CPU socket positioned higher up???

@ kez1304

I personally found it easier to unscrew the 4 screws to remove the plastic optional door fan holder from the case cover, rather than cut off parts from it. Sounds like your mobo socket is higher. However, either way will leave more space to play around with inside of the case. The decision is up to the user :) .
