I'm looking at getting a new LCD. My older 19" LCD was scratched on the way to a LAN. (sign:: women drivers )
Basically I don't like how short in height the Wide Screens are. They are however cheaper in price, so I'm thinking of getting a 22" wide to make of for the lack of height. I'm afraid if I go to big a resolution my FPS will decrease significantly. I have an 8800GTS 320MB card. The best deals I've found are from a brand called KDS.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824155049 <--- $5 cheaper, Case around the LCD is too big.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824155053 <--- I like the looks better.

They both have the exact specs. I really don't want to settle for specs less than what they offer.
I like that they have a 3 year warranty as well.

What'd you think????

They made the mistake of buying KDS monitors at my work. 5-6 years later not one is still in the office. The older Viewsonics on the other hand ALL still work.

I own this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824009094

If you don't need built in speakers, this is a good pick. It's noninated for the Newegg Customer Choice Award also.

So any visual difference between a 1000:1 Contrast ratio LCD and a 700:1??

Reply to WaVeS

Yes big difference from 700:1 to 1000:1
I wouldn't go below 850:1 if possible.

So that rules out the Acer. Anything else?
Someone said the KDS's where gone 5 years later, did they have a 3 year warranty on them back then??

Run, don't walk run away from KDS, I picked up a 19 inch KDS from COMPUSA and it died right after it's one year warranty was out.
I have a 19 inch Samsung wide screen now, and when I uprade next year will get a Samsung 22 inch wide screen.
The only issue I seem to have is with a system reboot the settings like to reset to a more normal non wide screen resolution.
This seems to happen mostly in XP, but has also happened in Vista.
This may be a driver issue, or it may be a problem with the MS os's.
This never happens in my GNU/Linux os install.

No one has touched on the gaming POV. Will the FPS be much of a change? Or is that something I shouldn't be concerned with?

I've got an LG 22" wide; 3000:1 ratio with 2ms response time. More expensive than most but I am absolutely happy with it.

From a gaming standpoint, I love it. Your card SHOULD do fine with it as the max resolution is 1680 x 1050. I don't think I'd be too concerned about your FPS.

I'd go with a good name (Samsung, LG, Viewsonic) with at least a 1000:1 contrast ratio.

Quite frankly, you need to increase your budget if you want a decent 22" gaming monitor. Check out the 22-inchers from Samsung, LG, BenQ, Viewsonic. But be prepared to spend $280-$350.

Thank you all for your opinions. :D

On 3 KDS CRT monitor here, only one still work. Dunno about their LCD, but I wouldn't pick another KDS.

Also, 22" and 20" WS LCD have usually the same resolution of 1680 X 1050, so you won't have more space on one or another. Things are just bigger on 22". If that doesn't bother you, 20" are usually a bit cheaper than 22".
