Current System:
ASUS A8N-SLI (939)
AMD 64 3500+ Manchester 2.2GHz
EVGA 7600GT 256MB (580MHz)
Corsair XMS DDR400 1GB
Cooler Master Centurion 532
WD Caviar SE16 250GB
LOGISYS PS550ABK 550Watts -

New System:
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E1681...
OCZ Platinum Revision 2GB DDR2 800 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E1682...
Intel Dual-Core E2140 Allendale 1.6GHz 1MB L2 Cache - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E1681...

Things I do know about the new system:
I do know that the E2140 is not true C2D. It only has 1MB of Cache. Its $50 cheaper than the E4300 and it is going to be a farshot for my wife to approve of this upgrade.
This motherboard will allow me to go up to the Quad series. I am only getting the E2140 for the time being. If I need more ram in the furture I can get 2 or 4 GB more set.

Main Questions:
Is this a pretty good mother board?
Will my new system fit in my old case?
Will my old Power Supply had the new system?
Overall would this be a smart upgrade?

PS. I did think about just upgrading my old system with a X2 4200+ and 1 more GB of Ram but that cost is about $150. Where the new MOBO, RAM, and CPU is about $250. Well worth the $100 extra.

You can get a 590 am2 board and a faster am2 cpu for the same price as that you lowend intel cpu and the p35 board.

Also you can try get a 165 of better 939 cpu.

I understand that I am getting a slower chip with the upgrade, but I am getting a mother board that can handle an upgrade up to the Quad line so in another 6-12months I can get a quad CPU.

Is my thinking correct on this?

I believe AMD is at the end of the line on there current chipset. They are going to have to start making new chips not will not allow me to upgrade later. Dont quote me on this I have been outta the tech world for a while just my undestanding.

Toss an Opty 165 and 8800GTS in and call it a day if you can find the Opteron 939's anymore... Don't forget to update your chipset and bios before installing the new proc...
