Suitable printer to use with Windows Vista Ultimate

Hello,
Can anyone tell me a printer that is compatible with Windows Vista Ultimate? I tried connecting my HP printer but the computer displays a message saying it can not connect to it ( forget the technical reason it gave for not being able to do so!). Thanks

You may want to start with your budget, what type of printer you are looking for, color, b/w, laser, inkjet, large format, all-in-one, etc.. to get an answer I think.
