I wanted to build a gaming pc.
I have pretty limited hardware knowledge but I have built a system before (like 8 years ago).
I'm looking to get a desktop mostly for gaming.
can I ask, are you really looking for decent gaming?, if so get a better PSU and a 2900xt/8800, avoid the current mid range GFX cards for gaming, they suck compared to the high end, in addition I would recommend a better processer, if not an intel then you can still get x2 6000

Also, consider purchasing Vista Ultimate, since you can install a copy of XP Pro and activate it with your Ultimate key. That way you don't have to purchase Vista when you want to start DX10 gaming.
Case - Your Choice.
Motherboard - I'd probably go EVGA 500/600 series
Graphics Card - Go high-end HD2900/8800
Power Supply - I like Antec (though not as much, recently), Seasonic, and FSP.
Memory - Good Choice, with the rebate. Without it, might be a bit much.
Processor - Prolly upgrade to at least a 5200+
CPU Cooler - Why? Stock works just fine unless you intend to overclock or are looking for a quieter fan.
Hard Drive - If the system is primarily for gaming, do you really need more than 160 Gig? I've got Oblivion, Doom 3, Supreme Commander, Neverwinter Nights 2, and City of Heroes/Villains installed on my work laptop's 100 Gig drive. That's not to mention MySQL, VB6, MSOffice, and I still have enough room to use it as a DivX encoder.
I just received my XION 303, You won't be disappointed. Just remember it has a door, so don't do like me and buy a fan controller with Knobs, the door won't close. Crap. Go with the WD 750, read the reviews. Consider the Zalman 9700, it's copper but when your drinking heavily, you CAN convince yourself it's GOLD!!!! and yeah, go with eVGA or Gigabyte mobos. See you at church.
