Uninstalled old drivers. Update DirectX 9.0c with the August Update. Installed Catalyst 7.9 with X800XT AIW AGP. Direct 3D not working. Confirm when running DXDiag. The following message appears:

HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)

None of my games are running.

Uninstalled 7.9 and installed 7.7 and everything is OK. All games are working.

Any solutions ?

Tanx !

Yeah, as much as it's a little overly simplistic, the new drivers don't offer very much to the X800 series, so if the 7.7s are running fine, stick with them unless you know of something in the 7.9s that would fix a problem you're experiencing, and right now, the unplayability is a bigger problem in the 7.9s on your rig.

They're fine with my MR-X700, I would suggest you check you DX9 version and update if possible, but really if the 7.7s work fine for you I see no reason to upgrade.

I need this driver for Bioshock. I don't have choice then and ATI must correct their drivers for AGP card

I downloaded and installed 7.9 on the day of release and it fubared my system really badly, turned out that i had a bad download of it and just needed to re-download the installer. Worked fine after that.

You may wanna re-download the 7.9 drivers just in case it happened to you too.

Well your card won't work with Bioshock anyway, it is a SM2.0b card and Bioshock requires SM3.0. It will not work even if you do update the drivers. I know I have the same card.

There is meant to be a patch to allow SM2 cards to run bioshock we had a thread on it at release time i remember DR Asic was quite happy about it as he runs a x800 series card.

It will most likely work if you re download the drivers, and install it again. Maybe download the newest DirectX download from microsoft.

NEW: ATI/AMD will release new driver (7.10) this weekend. Hope this will fix the problem with AGP card.

Come on AMD and check your driver before releasing it. GRrr...

Why would they, they only provide support for hardware for 6 months anyway :sarcastic:
I mean, the AGP x1950 pro's haven't worked on cat 7.8/7.9 and they are only a year or so old. Speaking of whichc, will they work with 7.10, hmmm lets see...

I will make a ghost of XP reinstllation before installing 7.10 release. If it fail, then I will try Omega Driver 3.8.413, 10/01/2007.
If not working, then I will try installing only the driver by the .inf file as suggested by some users.
Hope one of these solutions will work for me.

My Ati X1300 only works with 7.7 drivers

7.8: they work the first time, but show some minor 2d errors (3d doent's work).
7.9 and 7.10 only works 2d and in none of these versions works the catalyst control panel.

I don't know why ati hasn't fixed this yet, i've bought my card this year and now it's like it's not supported anymore.

Anyone know how to fix this.

PS: I have evrything up to date, chipset, windows, sound card etc...

Oh you mean the omegas finally got out of the history books with 7.4 and moved into the recent past? Lol.

huh? What do you mean they dont work? As in they dont have anything new in them? or they actually do not work???

They work for me (sapphire x1950 pro agp), and either its just luck or this driver has taken my average fps in ut2004 from 102 to 123 -_- (might just be luck since i dont thin it was supposed to do that..lol). Oh well.....

lemme know how the new..er omega drivers are doing. Might give it a try aswell and see how they affect UT3 :)

According to the release notes for cat 7.8/7.9 they don't work for AGP x1950 pro's, and many people had problems with them. Image corruption even on the desktop. But for some it worked, so it is luck I guess :)

Catalyst 7.10 was not working for me. The same problem as with 7.9. Direct 3D in problem.

But I got a solution as post by some users in others forums.

New XP installation with all Microsoft updates. Ghost it. Then install catalyst 7.6 (use the latest Catalyst that was working for you). Made a copy of the following file: ati3duag.dll (in some cases you will also need another file ati3d1ag.dll if it installs on your computer).

Deghost. Install Catalyst 7.10. Boot in Safe mode and replace the file ati3duag.dll (and the other one if you have it on your system)

Reboot and that's it. Direct 3D working. I filled in an "ATI Catalyst Crew Feedback" about the problem.

Hope they will correct the problem for my X800XT AGP.

My second machine (used for LAN and spare machine) did have a Saphire Radeon 9600 in and the 7.10 drivers, after installation (and previous driver removal), stated it wasn't a Directx 9 card! (when trying to run 'Thrillville 2' and 'Cnc3' though the games are irrelevant as it was failing directx 9 3d tests)
So I put in an X800, removed all drivers, redownloaded the 7.10 drivers, installed them... and again stated it wasn't a directx 9 card! (in Directx 9 3d tests and running games)

Went back to 7.8 and problem solved!

I did try for the 7.9 but the ATI site stated they were x64 drivers
