Optimize safety removal no need to use safely remove device

I'm using window vista.i have no problem safely removing usb with lower gb like 8gb to 16 but when i use the imation 500gb capacity hard drive after looking or transfering files it just wont safely remove. . .I have to shut down my pc before it stops. . .pls help me. . . thanks,Ben.
