Zalman 9700 & extra fan

I just lapped my 9700, and the surface is so much better. When I disambled the fan from the cooler, I noticed there were additional holes (not connectors for the heat sink). Can a second fan be attached? Has anyone tried this and obtained positive results. I know parts can be purchased. I am curious if the addition of a second fan on the unit will drop cpu temps. Not too concerned about the extra noise.
