ok, so here's the problem. My XP got a little corrupted so i thought i'd just jump to vista anyway. Popped in the CD in xp, got the files copied and so on. Restarted into the installation process and into a 256 colour screen, rebooted.. and it went on again and again.

No problem, read somewhere that it was a bios problem. So i updated the bios to ver 2004.
Tried again, no luck. But this time, it wasnt in 256 colour, but in at least 16bit. I heard there might be some issues with Nvidia as well, but i need to confirm.
Here are my specs.

Asus P5W DH 975X
C2D 6420
2X1GB Kingston DDR 667
Nvidia 7900GS (Xpert vision)
1 WD 320KS (OS)
1 Hitachi 80GB
1 Hitachi 1TB
1 Seagate 80GB

Thanks in advance! :bounce:

The last non beta bios is 2206. I have a c2d e6600 and the p5w dh deluxe. I am dual booting xp and vista and have had no problems. Are you doing a clean install or upgrade?

umm, i'm doing dual boot. I have an existing winxp sp2 installed. So i guess it's a rather clean install. Is 2206 stable? i've heard alot of problems with 2205. I just upgraded from beta 1605 to 2004. Like i said, some improvments, but didnt solve the problem. I await your reply.
oh btw, which version of bios did u use when u installed vista?

I believe it was 2004 but it might have been the 2206. mines is set up like this
Installed xp on 250 gig wd drive
then installed vista on raptor 150 gig
i use my third drive for storage. I made sure to download the vista drivers under vista.
So you did install vista and can boot in it but your color/resolution is off?

Only thing i can think of is make sure you downloaded and installed the visa version of your drivers.
what is your monitor and its suggested resolution

nono.. on the older bios (1605) when it booted into installation from bios, the colour was off.
After i updated it to 2004, the colour was correct, but it didnt solve the rebooting problem. My monitor's a 22 inch viewsonic, running on a 7900GS.
btw, i've just updated my bios to 2302(not typo). Have yet to restart and see if it solves the problem.

alright, problem not solved :( thanks though.. after updating the bios, it detected a new drive, although i didnt change any configs. The new drive was named config drive, and i can't do anything with it. Can be seen in drive manager with no capacity, no format, no nth. Ah forget it, i'll just buy a new board. P5k premium perhaps

ok. problem partially solved. I tried doing an install on a completely clean drive with nothing on it by booting from startup. Installation went on, till the last phase (completing install).. and just stayed there.. i waited for 2 hours, but it still doesnt complete.
